Admin Password

Postby espi3030 » Mon Aug 04, 2008 12:15 pm

Greetings all,

I just deployed the uda14 and in following the directions I reset the admin password in the web interface, but now it will not allow me to log in with that new password. Is there somewhere from a command line I can reset it? Thank you

To reset the password of the web admin user:

* log in as root on the console and type:
echo admin:`echo test | openssl passwd -stdin -salt Ty` > /var/public/conf/passwd

* this resets the password of the admin user to 'test'. You can also replace the word test with your favorite password
if that doesnt work, or if cutting and pasting does not work as expected, then try

echo admin:Tysuz5i63id4A > /var/public/conf/passwd

the password should then definitely be 'test'...

good luck!

Hi,

I download 2.0 build 17. Installed/deployed it on ESXi4 as a VM. But I cannot log in. Have tried all the tricks stated previously in this post. I have also loaded this build into a VMWare workstation on my laptop. I am able to login OK. So I am wondering if I can restart the "wizard" process when you initally install the uda, that sets up the IP, passwd, etc? Can I reboot and force that wizard to re-init the UDA?

Hi There,
Can you still access the web-interface?
If so, I may be able to help.

Yes - I can still access the web interface and I get a login/password dialog. It just will not accept what I give it. Thought I gave it what I initially configured in the initial setup wizard. Can I reset it by restarting the setup wizard (i.e make it seem like an initial install)?

JD, Looks like you've lost the password of boot root and the web-user admin.

Here's how you reset the root password:

* Reboot the virtual machine and during the (blue) Centos Grub Boot screen hit the space-bar (that will cancel automatic boot)

* Press 'e'-key (go to edit mode of the boot command line)

* Press 'down-arrow' (goes to kernel command line)

* Press 'e'-key (edit that line)

* Add a space and the word 'single' to the kernel line and press enter (tells the kernel to boot in single user mode)

* Press 'b'-key (will initiate the boot sequence)

Now the UDA will boot and will stop at a sh-3.2# prompt.
* Type
Code: Select all
passwd

* Then enter the password you want to set and hit enter.

* Enter the same password again and hit enter.

* Make the virtual machine trigger the setup script upon next boot
Code: Select all
touch /var/public/conf/firstboot.txt

* Reboot the UDA by typing
Code: Select all
shutdown -r now

* Enjoy...

Sorry - this is off topic for this thread (I cannot start a new topic - or access the UDA 2.0 topics). But now that I am able to login I do not see the quick start guide that was advertised when running the uda 2.0 configuration wizard. I simply want to configure this for kickstart purposes.

I'm sorry, but I never got to writing that guide...
Mike Laverick of rtfm-ed.co.uk fame has however!
Check out his UDA page at: http://www.rtfm-ed.co.uk/vmware-content/ultimate-da/
You can download a quick start guide there!
