Adding files to bootimage

Postby gabrie » Thu Jul 19, 2007 1:34 pm

Hi

I'm trying to do some parsing into kickstart.cfg at boot time, but I would need the 'awk' command for this. When using the normal ESX301.iso, the awk command is not available in the %pre section of kickstart.

So I would like to include it in the boot image or whatever this is called. Can someone tell me where I should look for?

During install I can see that vmlinuz.esx301 is loaded. Are all other commands included in this vmlinuz file? How can I add 'awk' to this file?

Hi,

I am trying to launch cmd.exe using boot.wim before going to setup, so that i can launch my boot scripts using cmd.exe.
Can you please help me in achieving this by providing me the procedure for the same.

I followed the approach of Ultimate Deployment:

1. Extracted the boot.wim
2. Created winpeshl.ini file for launching cmd.exe and saved to boot.wim
3. Saved the changes to boot.wim and rebooted the target machine.

But I am encountering the following issues:

1. After rebooting the machine, it is directly going to setup instead of launching cmd.exe
2. After setup is launched, it is throwing the error as “ wds client : windows failed to initialize the wds mode”

Any help on this will be highly appreciable.

Thanks,

You'll probably want to move the setup.exe out of the way (just rename them in the WIM file).
The one in the root and in windows\system32 directory.
If the wim boot procedure find either of them it wil execute it...

I extracted a iso file, through which i got the boot.wim.
Then mounted boot.wim to a folder using dism and then searched for setup.exe file, but not finding it.
am i going in a right way for adding files to boot.wim?

any help on this will be really appreciable.

Hey thanks for this one! Really helpful
The failures and reverses which await men - and one after another sadden the brow of hollister and youth - add a dignity to the prospect of human life, which no Arcadian success would do.
